To-die-for microwave caramel sauce

When entertaining visitors or guests, it’s easy to forget about the little details like dessert. Make your own caramel sauce in the microwave. All you need are three ingredients, and only a few minutes.

Ice cream and caramel


  • 6 tablespoon butter
  • 1-1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream



Melt butter in a heat-safe bowl in the microwave for about 20 seconds.

Step 1 melted butter


Stir in brown sugar and heavy cream until completely mixed.

Microwave for about one and a half minutes. The sauce should be bubbling.

Step 3 microwave caramel sauce


Stir until bubbles dissipate. Allow the sauce to sit and cool until it thickens.

Step 4 hot caramel sauce

If the sauce is still not thick enough after cooling, pop back in microwave for another 30 seconds.
