Can you imagine 007 parking his expensive car, walking up to a classy bar in his expensive suit and ordering a… beer? You’ll have to soon.

Sean Connery in James Bond

Fans of James Bond have come to expect certain qualities in their suave leading man, from the clothes he wears to the cocktails he drinks.

Bond has always been a martini drinker: shaken, not stirred. But the latest Bond film, Skyfall, will have the iconic spy drinking beer, specifically Heineken, thanks to a rumored $45 million marketing deal between the beer company and the movie franchise. Daniel Craig is also said to be starring in a commercial to plug the brand.

Unhappy fans

As you can imagine, this is not sitting well with Bond enthusiasts. While past movies have made other small changes to the books, and even had him ordering a mojito in Die Another Day, none have caused such an uproar as James Bond foregoing his martini for a – gasp – beer. It remains to be seen if excessive product placement will prove to be a downfall for both brands.

Calm down with a cocktail

With all this outrage, a stiff drink may be just what the doctor ordered to calm those nerves. Channel your inner James Bond and mix up a martini. Whether it’s shaken or stirred, gin or vodka, at least it’s not beer.
