Tonight’s Dinner: Tilapia with a Creamy Caper Sauce

Tilapia is such a great fish. It’s accessible, cheap, and mild tasting. When combined with capers and a lemon cream sauce, it’s utterly mouthwatering. And, you’ll never guess how easy this dish is to make.

Tilapia with Cream Sauce and Capers

This easy weeknight meal tastes absolutely divine. While the tilapia is broiling in your oven, you’ll be whipping up an easy lemon cream sauce. The recipe calls for capers, which taste like tiny green olives. You can find them in the olive bar of most local grocery stores, which is great, because it allows you to buy just enough for the recipe. If you don’t like olives or capers, no problem! This cream sauce stands alone without them.

Tilapia with Lemon-Caper Cream Sauce

  • 4 tilapia fillets
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 lemons, freshly squeezed
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 2/3 cup table cream
  • 1/4 cup capers

In a small bowl, stir together the paprika, onion salt, sugar, and sea salt. Sprinkle on the tilapia fillets. Place fillets on a broiler pan and broil in the oven until white and flaky, about 7-9 minutes. While the tilapia is broiling, melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in the lemon juice and flour, then slowly whisk in the cream. Whisk until steaming and slightly thickened. Do not the let cream mixture come to boil. Stir in capers, and spoon over cooked tilapia fillets.
