Just thinking about warm, homemade bread is enough to make your mouth water, right? But who really wants to go through the hassle of making a loaf from scratch? Well, it might not be as difficult as you think, and it's well worth the trouble! Here are a few simple steps for making hassle-free homemade bread.

Woman baking breadStep 1: Keep it simple

Start with a basic recipe, such as the one that follows: 2 tablespoons dry yeast, 4 to 5 cups flour, 2 cups water, and 1 teaspoon salt. Could a recipe be any easier?

Step 2: Mix water and yeast

In a large mixing bowl, pour the water and add the yeast, stirring until it is completely dissolved.

Step 3: Add salt and flour

Add the salt and about 1 cup of the flour, then stir well. Add flour little at a time until the dough is too tough to stir. Then form it into a ball.

Step 4: Knead it

Knead the bread dough for at least 10 minutes. Then put the dough in a large, deep bowl and let it rise for approximately one hour.

Step 5: Shape it

Form the dough into whatever shape you want. Lightly grease the pan or spray it with nonstick butter-spray.

Step 6: Begin the baking

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and bake for about 30 minutes. The bread should appear golden brown. It will sound hollow when you thump it. Wait 15 to 30 minutes before slicing. For a decadent treat, serve warm with room temperature butter. Who knew bread could be such a treat!
