Why isn't stevia used in more products?

The expert answers:
Stevia is not allowed to be marketed as a sweetening agent in the US; the FDA has not cleared it for that purpose.

Therefore, manufacturers are reluctant to use it strictly as a sweetener. It is available in health food stores, however, as a dietary supplement.
