For many years studies have shown consuming moderate levels of alcohol — no more than one to two drinks per day — can be beneficial to your overall health.
What better way to take advantage of these benefits than with a glass of red wine with dinner. Red wine is produced using the leaves, stems, skins and seeds of the grape so it contains the highest levels of resveratrol, a potent anti-oxidant. Resveratrol also assists the body in preventing small vessel blood clots that are associated with coronary disease and stroke.
If you are not used to drinking red wine try this Sangria recipe. I am sure it will be a hit at your next dinner!
- 1 cup orange juice
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 bottle of red wine (750 ml)
- 1/4 cup lime juice
- 1 orange, thinly sliced
- 1 lime, thinly sliced
- Mix the orange juice and sugar and heat in a small pan until the sugar dissolves. When it has cooled, mix with the remaining ingredients, place in the refrigerator and allow the flavors to blend for a few hours.
