In-N-Out has a cult following that will happily go out of their way to get their animal-style double-double — but they do so knowing everything will always be pretty much the same as it was a decade before and will be a decade later.
Until now. The incredibly popular fast-food chain has added a new menu item, and while it’s not the veggie burger everyone has long coveted, it is a pretty sweet reward.
If you are enjoying your burger and fries on a chilly night, you can now score a hot cocoa to wash it down. In-N-Out is now serving 8-ounce cups of hot cocoa at their restaurants in California, Utah, Arizona, Texas, Nevada and Oregon.
The hot cocoa, which sells for $1.60, is made with Ghirardelli Chocolate cocoa and hot water and is topped off with a packet of mini marshmallows. You can also order the marshmallows on the side, which means it’s almost like there are two menu changes at once.
Interestingly, this isn’t even truly a new menu item (we thought so!) — but rather the return of an old favorite. Company president Lynsi Snyder told The Orange County Register hot cocoa had a spot on the menu way back in the 1950s. “This is actually the return of hot cocoa,” she said. “My grandparents, Harry and Esther Snyder, served it for many years beginning in the ’50s. I’m not sure how it fell off the menu but it’s part of our culture and something special for kids, and I’m happy that we’re bringing it back.”
Welcome back, hot cocoa. We’re excited to see you. Though you’d be even better with a few dessert options…
