As a kid, I was obsessed with Magic Shell, that liquid chocolate you poured over your ice cream that would immediately turn into a hard and crunchy cocoa shell as soon as it hit the ice cream. Like, I’m pretty sure my body chemistry each summer was 80 percent Magic Shell coating.
But these days, I try to steer clear of high-fructose syrup and other mysterious ingredients, so I was elated when I heard about two-ingredient, DIY chocolate dip.
It’s so easy it seems kind of crazy.
All you need is refined coconut oil and your favorite chocolate.
Add 2 cups of your favorite chocolate (chopped) and 1/4 cup of refined coconut oil to a microwaveable bowl, and microwave in 30-second intervals until it’s all melted together. Stir to combine, then pour over your ice cream for magical results.
If you want to get fancy, you can try the 3-ingredient method. It calls for corn syrup in addition to the coconut oil and chocolate for a slightly more fudgy flavor and texture.
No matter what you try, two things are certain: 1) You never need to spend money on an overpriced bottle of Magic Shell again, and 2) you may be an adult, but it turns out that pouring homemade chocolate dip into a bowl of ice cream at a 3-1 ratio will never, ever lose its appeal.
