Put down that Frappuccino, because Starbucks just created something better

I always look forward to seeing what new Frappuccino flavors Starbucks will come out with for the summer, but this year they’ve done something new. They’re selling granitas — piles of shaved iced topped with juice, tea or coffee poured over them. The flavors sound delicious and way more refreshing than the classic Frappuccino, which is laden with sugar and dairy and always makes me feel like I need to take a nap.

The new granitas will be available on the Starbucks Sunset Menu, which is available every day after 3 p.m. this summer.

For flavors, you get to choose from Caramel Espresso, Teavana Youthberry White Tea and Strawberry Lemon Limeade. They basically have something for everyone: a coffee flavor for caffeine junkies, a frosty tea with flavors of pineapple and hibiscus and a summery fruit juice blend that sounds the most like a classic slushie — they even blend the ice with strawberry slices. Personally, I kind of want to try them all!

Along with the granitas, Starbucks is also launching trifles. You can choose between Chocolate Brownie and Strawberry Shortcake, both of which feature layers of brownie or vanilla bean scone, respectively, and whipped cream. It sounds like the perfect snack on a hot summer day... or fall day... or winter... Who knows? Maybe this is one treat they’ll keep around!
