How to grill the tender, sweet shrimp you're craving in 4 easy steps

Here’s how you make grilled shrimp in four simple steps.

Grilled shrimp is super simple to make, but it takes a little science. You want to have amazing grill marks and browned shrimp without overcooked, rubbery shrimp. We have the perfect solution. Season your shrimp with a little salt and pepper, and add a little fat (olive oil) to the shrimp so they can brown.

Here is the step-by-step guide on how to grill shrimp perfectly.

All you’ll need is peeled and deveined shrimp, olive oil, salt, pepper, skewers and a grill pan (if it’s grilling season, feel free to use your outdoor grill).

Step 1: In a bowl, season your shrimp with salt and pepper to taste and a drizzle of olive oil.

Step 2: Skewer your shrimp — add one skewer near the end of the shrimp and another skewer at the head of the shrimp. Continue skewering the shrimp until about five or six are on the skewer, about an inch apart.

Step 3: To your grill pan over high heat, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Once the grill pan is hot enough, add the shrimp skewers.

Step 4: Cook the shrimp for about two minutes on each side, until the shrimp turn a pinkish hue with grill marks. Take them off the grill, remove them from skewers, and serve.

Grilled shrimp recipe

Prep time: 10 minutes | Cook time: 4 minutes | Total time: 14 minutes

Serves 4 

Ingredients: 

  • 20 – 35 shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • Olive oil

Directions: 

  1. In a bowl, season your shrimp with salt and pepper to taste and a drizzle of olive oil.
  2. Skewer your shrimp — add 1 skewer near the end of the shrimp and another skewer at the head of the shrimp. Continue skewering the shrimp until about 5 or 6 are on the skewer, about an inch apart.
  3. To your grill pan over high heat, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Once the grill pan is hot enough, add the shrimp skewers.
  4. Cook the shrimp for about 2 minutes on each side, until the shrimp turn a pinkish hue with grill marks. Take them off the grill, remove from skewers, and serve.
