Pigs in blankets get a sweet makeover by London bakery

What says Christmas more than pigs in blankets? Superbly moreish, they’re enough to bring fisticuffs to the Christmas Day dinner table. Everyone wants the last one, right?

Pigs in blankets traditionalists may not take this news too well. A gourmet London bakery has taken the beloved festive dish and used it to create a new cupcake flavour.

The “very limited edition” brown sugar sponge cupcakes have a caramelised bacon filling and are topped with a spiced sausage frosting and a little pipette of cranberry sauce. A gold Belgian chocolate pig adds the finishing touch.

Chief taster at Flavourtown Bakery, Brooksy, told Metro.co.uk: “At Flavourtown we love to experiment with the world’s best ingredients and see what delicious treats we can come up with. We wanted to do something a bit bonkers for Christmas this year….”

If you’re adamant that your pigs in blankets should be free of sugar and chocolate and your cupcakes should never include bacon or sausage, you might prefer another of Flavourtown’s festive cupcakes.

All Flavourtown Bakery cupcakes are available to order online or from stockists Harrods, Selfridges and Old Spitalfields Market. Let us know if you manage to sample the pigs in blankets!
