Starbucks is celebrating the Frappuccino’s 20th birthday with a new drink.
The Birthday Cake Frappuccino will only be available for five days (until March 30), so we ran out to try one as soon as we could.
The new Frappuccino is a blend of vanilla bean and hazelnut flavors, with a cloud of raspberry-infused whipped cream on top.
So, what does it taste like?
Soooooooooo good! It is amazing how much the vanilla and hazelnut flavors combined taste exactly like a classic yellow birthday cake. It’s definitely sweet, but on the grand scheme of Starbucks beverages it’s actually not overpoweringly so (and like — it’s supposed to taste like birthday cake, so of course it’s sweet!).
I wasn’t super crazy about the raspberry whipped cream at first. The artificial flavor was too noticeable on its own.
However, as the drink started to melt and the whipped cream became more blended with the frozen part, the flavor combo turned out to be amazing — it was sort of like the raspberry jam layer you get in some cakes. So don’t skip the whip — just make sure you get a sip of Frappuccino along with it.
All in all, I would say that Starbucks did a pretty great job of commemorating the Frappuccino’s 20th birthday — this is one flavor I wouldn’t mind having stick around.
