Ch-ch-ch-chia! Up until a short time ago, I associated the word chia with the novelty gift you got stuck with in the white elephant exchange. Apparently times have changed.
Who knew the magical “pottery that grows” from your childhood was actually producing one of today’s trendiest health foods? Chia seeds are touted as having an array of benefits, from being packed with antioxidants, protein and omega-3 fatty acids to helping you lose weight. That’s reason enough to throw a handful into your smoothie, right? But you can also easily sprout your own and use chia seeds as a vegan egg substitute. Genius!
