I am not great when it comes to making beautiful desserts. Are the sweet things I whip up in the kitchen delectable and delicious? Totally; I've got this whole making-things-taste-good deal on lock.

But it's easy to get intimidated by online tutorials. It seems like a fair bulk of them exist solely to make you feel inferior. I prefer to avoid kitchen disasters and, as such, I stick to the basics. But that doesn't mean I don't yearn to try something new and pretty.

This cool (and idiot-proof) way of upping your next cake's ante courtesy of Mr. Stencil is totally amazing. Ice your cake, refrigerate it, sprinkle it with cocoa and boom — beautiful cake. It really doesn't get any simpler than that. I am itching to go out, procure cute stencils and get my cake-making skills on. The good thing here: Even if I mess up, I've still got a cake to eat.
