Gluten-free grilled tuna salad with creamy sesame-garlic dressing recipe

Serves 2-4


For the dressing

  • 1/4 cup gluten-free soy sauce
  • 3 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1-2 teaspoons gluten-free hot sauce, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 large garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt

For the tuna and salad

  • 2 (6 ounce) tuna steaks, about 1-1/2 inches thick
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 4 ounces arugula greens
  • 8-10 cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1 yellow bell pepper, seeds and membrane removed, cut into small strips
  • 3 hard-boiled eggs, sliced into rounds, divided
  • Sesame seeds as garnish


For the dressing

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, hot sauce, brown sugar, garlic, black pepper and yogurt until smooth. Refrigerate until ready to use.

For the tuna and salad

  1. Oil your grill grates, and set the grill to high heat.
  2. Rub the tuna steaks with the olive oil on both sides, and season with the salt and pepper.
  3. When the grill is hot, add the tuna, and cook for about 6 minutes total, about 3 minutes each side (or to desired doneness). This cooking time should yield tuna that is pink in the center.
  4. Remove the tuna from the grill, and set it aside. Toss together the arugula, tomatoes and bell peppers.
  5. Divide the salad among individual serving plates. Gently add the hard-boiled egg slices to the plates.
  6. Thinly slice the tuna, and divide it among the plates.
  7. Sprinkle with the sesame seeds, and serve with the dressing.

Take your tuna to the grill.
