Super-summery Jell-O “watermelon” slices

Kids can be the easiest and the hardest little mouths to feed. They either love what you make or refuse to even touch it with a 10-foot pole. Even if your kids are the pickiest eaters ever, they’ll love these little “watermelon” Jell-O bites. I mean, who wouldn’t love a treat this cute?

Kid-friendly Jell-O watermelons

These bite-size little sweets have everything you could want in a treat: chocolate, sugar and a bit of tartness. Not only are these a beautiful treat for your little nuggets, but they’re a great treat for adults too (all you need to do is spike them with a little booze!).

Recipe adapted from That’s So Michelle

Serves 20 (2 bites each)

  • 10 limes, halved
  • 1 box fruit punch Jell-O
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • Mini chocolate chips

  1. Carefully scoop out the flesh of the limes. The easiest way to do this is to cut out the insides with a sharp paring knife and then scoop out what remains with a spoon.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the boiling water and fruit punch Jell-O. Whisk in the cold water.
  3. Carefully pour the Jell-O into the halved limes, filling all the way up to the top (without spilling any over). Place the halves in a baking dish, and chill them for at least 3 to 4 hours.
  4. Once chilled, carefully cut the lime halves in half (to quarters), and press in the mini chocolate chips to look like the seeds. (If desired, you can roughly chop the chocolate chips to look more authentic).

Adults like Jell-O, too. Check out this boozy version:
