Looking to add more tofu to your diet? Maybe you’re bored with Meatless Monday? These delicious little crispy bites are 100 percent meatless and perfect for your family. This dish can be served as an appetizer or as a lovely side dish. Serve alongside the spicy soy dipping sauce and dip your heart out!

Crispy panko tofu bites recipe

Yield 4 servings as an appetizer or side dish


For crispy tofu bites

  • 1 block extra-firm tofu, pressed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • Pepper, to taste
  • Garlic powder, cayenne pepper or Chinese five spice blend (optional for seasoning panko)
  • Vegetable oil

For dipping sauce

  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon rice wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 2-3 teaspoons chili garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds


For crispy tofu bites

  1. After the tofu has been pressed, cut into 1-inch squares.
  2. Season panko if desired. Dip tofu in egg and then in panko. Make sure all sides are covered in panko.
  3. Add a large frying pan and fill with 1/2 inch vegetable oil. Heat over medium heat until the oil is hot.
  4. Add panko-covered tofu bites to hot oil and cook until crispy and browned on all sides.
  5. Serve with sauce.

For sauce

  1. Whisk all ingredients together in a small bowl.
