Outlander Stars Sophie Skelton & Richard Rankin Revisit Their Biggest Fights & Tease a Stressful Season 6

For Brianna Fraser Mackenzie (Sophie Skelton), child of Outlander’s star-crossed couple Jamie and Claire Fraser (Sam Heughan and Caitríona Balfe), time-traveling back to the 1700s to warn her parents of their death hasn’t been easy. Roger Mackenzie (Richard Rankin), who fell in love with Brianna in the 1960s and then chased her back in time, also hasn’t had it easy. That’s dedication, sir. In 2022, many people consider traveling an hour for a date to be long-distance. Outlander knows how to put their couples through the wringer time and time again. We chatted with Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin to find out exactly what kind of shenanigans (ahem, stress) their characters would have to endure this season on Outlander. (What, Outlander? Stressful, naaah. Never.)

In our full video interview (watch above!), we look back on the couple’s tumultuous relationship and address their biggest disagreements. More importantly, we go through their biggest arguments over the past few years and find out who was wrong: Brianna or Roger. But you’ll have to watch the video above to find out exactly who Skelton and Rankin thought was in the wrong. It doesn’t get heated at all. And no one quotes Beyoncé to prove their point. Couples therapy! But make it Outlander.

Recently, during a panel at SCAD TVFest, Skelton and Rankin revealed how much of the season is “happy.” Skelton said if they had to assign a percentage to the family’s happiness, it would be 5 percent. Five?! Rankin was more optimistic with a solid 10%. Skelton revised her number quickly to 50% but she said five first. Never forget.

In our interview, Skelton and Rankin also reveal what their favorite things are about working with each other for so many years. And they hint that Brianna might be responsible for a big twist in Outlander, which is the reason her character went back in time to find her parents. In season 4, Roger and Brianna learn from some history book that James and Claire Fraser die in a fire at Fraser’s Ridge — and this season, Jamie and Claire’s cute little pyromaniac daughter Brianna invents something that rhymes with liar. And is very hot. Omg, did Brianna Fraser, daughter of Claire and Jamie Fraser (and Frank Randall, RIP guy), go back in time to murder her parents?! Did Frank do this?! Was this Frank’s idea all along? (If so, good plan, man, very smart).

We also asked Skelton if fans would get what they’ve been craving for a while: scenes with Skelton and her on-screen parents, Balfe and Heughan. Watch and find out what we have to look forward to in Outlander Season 6, which premieres on March 6 on Starz.
