The ensemble cast of Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation is intense.
Between powerhouses like Ving Rhames, Jeremy Renner, Alec Baldwin and, of course, Tom Cruise, it’s a tough call to pinpoint which actor’s character will be the biggest badass on screen. Rebecca Ferguson joins the franchise as Ilsa Faust, Ethan Hunt’s new counterpart in Rogue Nation. As the lethal agent Ilsa, Ferguson is kicking butt and taking names — so much so, we’re convinced she’s sure to leave all the men in her dust. Even Cruise seems to agree.
Being that Ferguson’s dramatic résumé leading up to Mission: Impossible didn’t involve many fight sequences, the actress certainly had her work cut out for her, but Cruise can vouch that the actress was more than qualified for the role.
“She’d never done action before,” Cruise said in a the new sneak peek for the movie, exclusively released to SheKnows. “Luckily, she’s an amazing athlete and an incredibly powerful actress.” Those words aren’t to be taken lightly coming from Cruise, who is notorious for doing his own insane stunts.
According to Ferguson, she was more than game to try to keep up with Cruise on the set, which says a lot, considering his proclivity for flying on the outside of airplanes and jumping from fast-moving vehicles. “When Tom does something, that’s my motivation,” said Ferguson. “If Tom does it, I’ll try it.”
We can definitely expect to see Ferguson’s kick-butt attitude come through in Ilsa on screen. “She is the feminine version of Ethan Hunt. She has a kickass mean side and a vulnerability. Very much like me,” Ferguson says of her character, laughing. “My character’s way of moving is more like a cat. She will claw herself on her victims to make these massive big guys fall.”
Creating Ilsa and Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation was undoubtedly no small feat, but Ferguson says she is ecstatic to be part of it. “It’s been bleepingly awesome and I never use that word,” she confessed. “I’ve always loved Mission Impossible. You never know what to expect. It’s a ride and I’m a part of it now.”
