Nicki Minaj stole the show at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards, but things didn’t all go according to plan for the rapper because she suffered from a wardrobe malfunction while on stage.
Minaj opened the show by performing her new sexually charged single “Anaconda” at The Forum in Inglewood, California, on Sunday, but her quick outfit change to a sexy black dress for the performance of the track “Bang Bang” with Ariana Grande and Jessie J left her exposing more than she should have been.
In fact, the rapper had to hold her mini dress closed during the entire performance of “Bang Bang.” Whoops!
But don’t be fooled into thinking that Minaj was left embarrassed by the whole incident — she completely shrugged it off.
“It felt amazing to open the show,” she told Us Weekly in the VMAs press room. “We ran out of time getting the dress zipped up.”
But according to the mag, a source revealed that Minaj’s outfit didn’t fit from the start!
“She could never get into that dress,” the source revealed. “During the dress rehearsal she did the number numerous times and could not make it into the dress zipped up even once. I’ve no idea why she didn’t just decide to wear something else. She just didn’t have the time to change from one outfit into another, there was no way.”
And dress drama was not the only headache Minaj suffered from during her rehearsal because one of her backing dancers was bitten by a boa constrictor during practice.
