Bust out the hot chocolate and light that fireplace up, because Hallmark is back and bigger than ever with this year’s round of new Christmas movies — excuse us, holiday movies. That’s right, Hallmark is playing ball this year when it comes to peeking outside the whitest of Christmases and including some kinds of holiday cheer we’ve never seen on the channel before. But don’t worry: it’s still the Hallmark you love through and through, complete with last-minute blizzards, secret royalty, and Christmas-themed conflicts so whimsical you’d think they were dreamed up by Santa’s elves. And we’ve narrowed it down to the best new picks ahead.
Our favorite move from these perennial bringers of holiday cheer and their yearly “Countdown to Christmas”? The inclusion (at last) of a main LGBTQ storyline with The Christmas House, featuring a gay couple’s journey to adopt kids. Then there’s Tamera Mowry’s A Christmas Miracle, in which single mom and aspiring journalist Emma writes the biggest story of her life. Or Love, Lights, Hanukkah!, the rousing story of a restaurateur whose DNA test reveals she’s Jewish right before the holidays. With appearances from favorites like Danica McKellar and Candace Cameron Bure, we’re not sure what else you could ask for from this highly satisfying holiday line-up.
After this year, we’re more than ready to slip on our jingle bells and Santa hats and settle in to some easy viewing. Read on for the best of Hallmark’s holiday movies for a very merry Christmas indeed.
