Read These Books Before These 10 Shows Start This Season

Some of our favorite TV shows of all time started as books (Game of Thrones, we're looking at you). This fall, the TV lineup has even more really great shows based on books old and new, and there's still time to read the books before the shows premiere.

The book-to-TV crossover is a winning recipe because it ensures that a new show will already have a fan base, which bodes well for the studio producing it. For streaming platforms like Netflix and Hulu, the need for new content is at an all-time high, and developing shows from books is a no-brainer.

Books by classic writers like Joseph Conrad and Shirley Jackson are getting shows, along with books by contemporary crime writers like Tom Clancy and John le Carré. The king of horror, Stephen King, is getting a show inspired by the dark themes, characters and locations in his books, creating endless storylines similar to the chilling tales we know and love.
