And just like that, 2017 is over. It was a long and kind of arduous year. There was a seemingly constant political garbage fire that has consumed the news cycle. It was a year that saw the end of some really high-profile celebrity couples, like Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor and Chris Pratt and Anna Faris. But 2017 is officially out. It’s now 2018 whether you’re ready for it or not.
New Year’s Eve is a great time for celebrities to cut loose a little and celebrate a time of new beginnings with their friends and family. And that’s definitely what they did last night. Let’s be real — that’s what all of us did.
And if you partied a little too hard last night (don’t worry; you’re definitely not alone), maybe you should take it easy today and check out how celebs like Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Hudson and Bella Hadid rang in the New Year. Click through to see.
Kim Kardashian West
Kardashian West spent the holiday celebrating her makeup line, which she launched in 2017. “One of my ‘highlights’ (pun intended) of 2017 was starting @kkwbeauty,” she wrote on Instagram. “So proud of its success & all of the hard work our team puts in! Cheers to an even better year in 2018.”
Jackman spent the New Year celebrating with his wife and friends in Sydney. He posted shots of the fireworks over Sydney Harbour.
“Happiest new year from our family to yours,” he wrote.
Minogue was also in Syndey and shared a snap of fireworks being set off from the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Wonder if she ran into Jackman while she was there?
“[W]ishing one and all a new year full of joy, compassion, discovery, peace, music and love,” she wrote on Instagram.
Hawn rang in the new year with her parents, Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn, both of whom made an appearance on Hudson’s Instagram. “Pendleton love birds,” Hudson wrote.
It’s been a hell of a year for Doherty, who announced in April she was in remission after a brutal two-year battle with breast cancer. To ring in 2018, she visited the ancient city of Machu Picchu in Peru. “What a way to close out 2017,” she wrote on Instagram. “This country is rich in kindness, not just beauty.”
Carey came back from her disastrous performance on the eve of 2017 by returning to Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve for a very successful comeback. “Festive even in single digits!” she wrote. “See you tonight, everybody!!”
Wahlberg and his wife, Rhea Durham, had been vacationing in Barbados in the days leading up to 2018. We’re not sure where their celebration took place, but they posed for a sweet, celebratory selfie to ring in the new year. “Happy New Year!!!” Wahlberg wrote. “2018! Have a fun and safe New Year’s Eve.”
Vergara and her family celebrated both Joe Manganiello’s birthday and the new year at a tropical locale she referred to on Instagram as “Casa Chipi Chipi.” In an adorable Instagram snap, she and her family employed a golf cart to get ready for a New Year’s dinner that was full of friends.
When you’re someone as successful as Paltrow, the hustle never stops. She spent the holiday advertising on Instagram for Lyft, which both earned her some endorsement cash and discouraged drunk driving. Win-win!
Laura Dern closed out 2017 with a hike in Jurassic Park some jungle somewhere. She posted photos to Instagram, captioning them with her famous line from the Steven Spielberg hit. “Welcome to…” Fans filled in the end of the quote by commenting, “Jurassic Park,” over and over. Does this mean we’ll see Dern back in her iconic role when the next installment of Jurassic World drops? We can only hope.
Chopra spent the end of 2017 in London and then rang in the new year by watching fireworks over the Thames River. “Happy New Year world,” she wrote. “[M]ay 2018 bring us peace, love, happiness and harmony.”
Madonna had the sweetest low-key celebration at home with her newly adopted twin girls, Stella and Estere. The twins wore matching cat pajamas and wigs and posed for a cheesy snap taken by their mom. “So Much YES! ! 2018!” Madonna wrote.
If there’s a better way to celebrate the new year than in a hot tub, we don’t know what it is. And that’s exactly what Hadid did, surrounded by friends in Aspen, Colorado. “And a happy new year,” she captioned the shot.
