Almost 50 years later, the story of The Keepers is being told on Netflix. Beginning with the cold case of the murder of Sister Cathy Cesnik, a nun and teacher at Seton Keough High School in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1969, The Keepers expands slowly over the course of seven episodes to reveal a harrowing story of one priest, Father Maskell’s, sexual abuse and assault of multiple female teenage students in the late ’60s and early ’70s. The ramifications of Maskell’s abuse prove serious, with allegations of a connection to Cesnik’s murder as well as deep-seated psychological, emotional and physical trauma in the lives of the women he touched.
