As he wrote in his first book Most Talkative, Cohen once spent part of a summer following the Grateful Dead around Europe and it apparently reflected in his style. “I’d spent the earlier part of that summer following the Grateful Dead around and was now growing my hair out so I could put it in a ponytail. Have you ever seen a pony with kinky hair? No. My attempt was just a curly, fro-y mess,” he wrote in his memoir. Check out the hair in the photo.
Cooper and Cohen are now best friends, but that wasn’t always the case. The two almost went on a blind date 20 years ago. But after speaking on the phone, Cooper called it off. They ended up eventually meeting through mutual friends in LA and struck up a close friendship.
As Cohen once revealed on The Howard Stern Show, Gaga was scheduled to appear on WWHL, when she needed to relieve herself. Instead of trekking to the public bathroom shared at the studio, the pop star opted to pee in the nearest trash can. Cohen then had a production assistant turn the pee into perfume to add to the pop culture memorabilia in The Club House (which also apparently includes Lindsay Lohan’s cigarette butt and a breast implant from a Real Housewife).
Cohen told Us Weekly that the happiest time of his day is hosting WWHL… but there might be a reason for that. In that same list, he also admitted that he drinks — and serves — real cocktails on the show.
These days, it’s hard to imagine a time when the Housewives weren’t on TV, but Cohen says he and other Bravo execs almost scrapped the show altogether. “It was so plagued in Season 1 with troubles in the edit room,” Cohen told Entertainment Weekly last year. “We wound up getting rid of the original producers. We brought someone else in. It was a nightmare to produce. And we contemplated for a moment saying, ‘Well, should we just scrap this?’ I mean, thank God we didn’t do it.”
