12 things to know about Farrah Abraham’s deceased ex, Derek Underwood

Underwood passed away on Dec. 28, 2009, just two months before Sophia was born. 

Underwood died in a car crash when he and his friends, Zachary Mendoza and Dustin Congdon, lost control of the car.

Underwood was born in St. Joseph, Missouri, and worked as a waiter at Rick’s Café Boatyard in Omaha.

He loved to cook and had plans to go to culinary school.

He dated Abraham for two and a half years, but they cut all communication four months before his death. 

His sister Alissa Underwood described him as living on the edge, but still being responsible.

Underwood’s mom, Stormie Clark, claimed that Abraham never told Underwood she was pregnant with his daughter.

When Sophia was born, Abraham told Us Weekly her face looked just like Underwood’s, and so did her toes.

In Abraham’s memoir, My Teenage Dream Ended, she described Underwood as “my first love, my only true love.”

Abraham’s parents did not approve of Underwood and her dad, Michael, once even threatened him with a knife.

Sophia Abraham has heartbreakingly revealed her desire to have a father on more than one occasion.

Underwood’s mom, Stormie Clark, wanted to be involved in Sophia’s life and took Abraham to court for visitation rights.
