Hoffman’s book also claims that Kate manipulated her fertility treatments to purposefully become pregnant with sextuplets to achieve fame, according to the Daily Mail.
“What I discovered is that Kate Gosselin deliberately and intentionally got pregnant with two sets of multiples in order to become the working mom’s Martha Stewart… Her eight children were mere props — pawns in her game to accumulate as much wealth and notoriety as she could,” Hoffman writes, via the Daily Mail.
Hoffman also alleges that Gosselin would sometimes get so out of control while disciplining her kids that she would “ask God” to help her to stop from seriously injuring them.
Hoffman claims he has pages of Kate’s diary in which she wrote, “‘I spanked them so hard!!! I felt like I may hurt his children. I grabbled [sic] him and spanked him as hard as I could and thought I may seriously injure him. I was out of control.”
According to Hoffman, the kids weren’t the only subjects of Gosselin’s abuse. The family dogs, Shoka and Nala, were also punished severely whenever Jon wasn’t around to intervene.
“Kate would use a stick, a spoon, a tube or whatever else she had to discipline the dogs for minor infractions that dogs commit, like tracking mud into the basement after coming in from a pouring rain,” Hoffman writes. “She locked them outside in the freezing rain and snow and left them to watch the family through the basement windows… Kate Gosselin is cruel and she seems to enjoy the power that she has over children, animals and adults.”
Hoffman also alleges that Gosselin may have a drinking problem, according to the Daily Mail.
“Sources of mine who are very close to the family, and who have been inside the house with Kate, have told me that Kate is a big drinker,” Hoffman detailed in his book.
“She drinks the cheap stuff. She regularly drinks an entire bottle of wine herself at night before going to bed. She also drinks wine during the day… Kate has staffers buy the wine for her and bring it to the house in bags so nobody would know about it.”
Hoffman says Kate was hiding money in bank accounts that were in her bodyguard’s name, all while declaring she was broke to get public sympathy.
“In the summer of 2009, Kate started removing large amounts of money from the Gosselins’ joint bank accounts. Instead of depositing it in an account under her own name, she put it in a trust fund and chose Steve Neild as the trustee. The ‘bodyguard,'” writes Hoffman. “The family friend who silently stands by Kate while hiding her lies and her secrets. The friend who turns a blind eye while she abuses her children.
“She actually had at least 10 bank accounts each containing $200,000 or more,” Hoffman wrote. “In addition, she had many investment accounts and her 2008 tax return showed an adjusted gross income of $1,954,414.00.”Rumors also circulated that Neild was not only Gosselin’s trustee, but also her lover.
“On Tuesday, October 19, 2010, while bathing Leah, Father found large red welt on her read [sic] end,” the document stated. “Later explained that it was from Mother, after Leah bit Hannah… Several children have come forward to Father complaining that they get hurt when Mother spanks them.”
The paperwork then went on to state that Jon disagrees with the way his ex-wife disciplines their children.
“While Father would prefer that Mother not physically discipline the children, if Mother is going to do so, she should not do so to the point of leaving marks on the children,” the document read.
According to Radar Online, a 2010 document submitted to the Berks County, Pennsylvania, court also alleges that two teachers had revealed to Jon that his wife’s babysitter had locked the children inside their bedrooms at night.
“The children told the teachers that they were scared and that Alexis had broken a mirror when she could not get out of her room to use the bathroom,” Jon’s lawyer allegedly wrote. “The children also told the teachers that they were scared to tell Father about it because they did not want to get into trouble with Mother.”
In the same divorce documents, Jon also claimed that Kate is a negligent mother who does not dress her children appropriately for the cold weather.
“Children must be properly dressed for weather,” Jon’s lawyer stated. “On Wednesday, October 20, 2010, Father attended field trip with Hannah, Joel, Leah, and Aaden. Boys were dressed in cowboy boots and girls were dressed in Ugg boots.
“Ground was cold and wet and children slipped and got shoes dirty. Boys were dressed in pants and sweatshirt, with no undershirt or coat. It was 39 degrees that morning and children complained of being cold,” the statement also claimed. “Both Mother and Father will ensure that children are properly dressed with warm winter attire.”
The documents also accused Gosselin of feeding her children spoiled food.
“When they do not eat an item in their lunch, Mother packs that exact item the next day, and the next day until they eat it,” the documents state. “Hannah reported having moldy strawberries, and Alexis said her sandwich was stale. Leah said she had some food left over from lunch for many weeks.”
In February 2014, Jon told E! News that Kate needed a psychiatric evaluation because she was attempting to turn the former couple’s children against him and that he wanted to have full care of his children until Kate gets a mental evaluation, because she’s too controlling and manipulative.
“She instills fear in them and she controls their life,” Jon said. “I want temporary primary custody until Kate goes in [for] a psychiatric evaluation.”
