Michelle Obama Transformed Her Fashion Game After the White House & Here Are Her Top 17 Looks to Prove It

Don’t get us wrong, former First Lady Michelle Obama‘s fashion has always been on point. Since 2009, she’s gone to events, given inspiring speeches, and encouraged so many people around the world – all in great style. With that said, when she left White House in 2017, her fashion undeniably took a turn.

She’s begun to experiment with her outfits and hair, rocking looks that she couldn’t as a First Lady. Talking to Ellen Degeneres at an event in Washington D.C. promoting her new book “The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times,” Michelle discussed some major changes she made after leaving her official title.

Noting that Americans were still “getting adjusted” to having a Black president and a Black family in the White House, she said she would “keep [her] hair straight.” She then joked, “Let’s get healthcare passed.”

Now that that time in her life is long past her, let’s take a moment to appreciate her best style moments post-White House. A few of our favorites are her book tour looks, from 2019’s “Becoming” to 2022’s “The Light We Carry.”

Time for Reinvention

Michelle took Y2K style for a spin in this distressed patchwork Balmain wide-leg jeans and a Marine Serre dress that was transformed into a top for this book event in San Francisco. We love a good fashion risk!

A Cool Mom

Wearing a full Brandon Maxwell look, Michelle looked stunning at another San Francisco promotion event. The look consisted of a black and white jumpsuit with a faux strapless neckline over the white long sleeve top. The hair in the half updo was the ultimate cherry on top! Check out the pictures HERE!

A Primary Color Fan

Looking at Michelle and Hota Kotb together in these pictures, it’s like they coordinated looks. While Kotb wore a full bright yellow suit and nude pumps, Michelle wore a bright blue suit with yellow pumps. The perfect pair! Check out the pictures HERE!

A Power-Jumpsuit

Attending “The Light We Carry” event in her hometown of Chicago, Michelle rocked this mulberry-colored jumpsuit with white detailing. Though we’re a fan of any look on her, this high pony with slicked to the side bangs is definitely our favorite. Check out the pictures HERE!
