When the Met Gala rolls around, everyone knows they’re in store for a night of breathtaking and outlandish looks. Known as “fashion’s biggest night,” it’s an annual night that leaves everyone wanting to snag a lavish ballgown of their own. Ever since the 1940s, the event has been held nearly every year with a unique theme that makes stars think outside the box with their apparel. This year, despite it being another topsy-turvy year, we’re finally getting some semblance of normalcy and some spectacular costumes.

With any red carpet event, celebrities have a knack for understanding the assignment and coming to dazzle. This year was no different, with many of our favorite stars truly embodying the theme. There have been some eccentric themes in the past like “Fashion in an Age of Technology” and the 2018 theme “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” — who could forget Blake Lively’s red Versace gown? But the 2022 continued theme of “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” with a special emphasis on “gilded glamour,” seemed rather tame compared to others at first glance — until the ensembles came out.
