If I had to think of one designer that the royals love the most, I’d immediately think of Carolina Hererra. Both Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton are always seen on red carpets or out and about on daily excursions wearing something from the ultra-luxe brand known for its exquisite gowns and drool-worthy accessories. Each of the gorgeous ladies has been spotted in practically everything Carolina Herrera has to offer — topcoats, dresses, you name it. So, it was no shock when Meghan stepped out donning an adorable handbag from the brand last week at the Invictus Games. What was more of a surprise was that in doing so, she coincidentally matched Spain’s Queen, Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano, who wore the same bag just a few weeks prior.
When two royals wear the same thing, you know it’s good.
The brown leather mini crossbody satchel has a unique square structure to it that widens and rounds at the bottom. Not only does it come with a long adjustable shoulder strap, but it also comes with an adorable top handle that adds a layer of sophistication to the subtle piece. The sealed flap that secures everything inside is simply an added bonus.
Now, before you go getting too excited about this royal-approved handbag, let me forewarn you: it costs a whopping $1,500. Yeah. I felt the same way when I found out. But, this led me on a hunt to find a similar-looking bag that I can wear for the summer. All of the elements of the designer style make for the ideal go-anywhere handbag, after all. It’s small but can hold the essentials, it’ll be comfortable to wear thanks to the crossbody strap, it’s neutral because of the tan color and it is super chic. What more could you want?
Thankfully, my mission was a success — and then some. I found seven different handbags from Nordstrom, Tory Burch, Kate Spade and Amazon that fit the bill (but cost so much less). Starting at just $40, these handbags make for great designer dupes. I wonder if there’s a way to let Kate and Meghan know.
