So far, 2022 has been the year that the entertainment industry has shined a light on the scammers of the world. We all were on the edge of our seats when Inventing Anna came out, showing the rise and fall of socialite scammer Anna Delvey. On March 3, another mini-series is coming out that’ll keep you guessing. You probably have seen previews for Hulu’s upcoming The Dropout, starring Amanda Seyfried. But did you know it’s based on a real-life, utterly bizarre story that actually happened?

The Dropout, based on the podcast of the same name detailing how Holmes’ fraud was uncovered, shows the rise and fall of Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, from college dropout to revolutionary tech leader to undeniable fraud. Now, Holmes isn’t a wacky character Seyfried had to make out of thin air, Holmes is a real person — and the true story is just as wild.

Holmes was a gifted young girl who dreamed of changing the world. At a young age, she knew she wanted to work in tech, and she idolized Apple founder Steve Jobs. Soon after being accepted into the ever-so prestigious Stanford University, she dropped out to pursue the infamous company known as Theranos. No one was prepared for what was to come, and how many layers were behind this fraudulent story.

Let’s check out Holmes’ life ahead of the Hulu series.
