It’s sometimes hard to forget with so much focus and fascination on the British royal family that there are other long-reigning monarchies in the world. They might not get as much notoriety as the House of Windsor, but the royal family in Monaco has a long history of being a media fixation over the years.
It was decades ago in the mid-1950s when Grace Kelly, an Academy Award-winning actress known for her career in Classic Hollywood, ushered in a whole new age for the House of Grimaldi by way of her marriage to Rainier III, Prince of Monaco. The couple went on to have three children — Caroline, Princess of Hanover, Albert II, Prince of Monaco, and Princess Stéphanie. Each of Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier’s children went on to have families of their own.
Now it seems, there’s a new generation of royals who are taking over the spotlight. Whether it’s a granddaughter’s uncanny likeness to the late Grace Kelly, or the drama encompassing Prince Albert II’s marriage to current wife Princess Charlene, the royal family in Monaco have as much a fascinating history as their contemporaries. But since not everyone is quite as well known, we thought it would be helpful to gather photos of this royal family and give you a look at each of its most prominent members.
