The Emmy nominations have finally been revealed and we cannot believe how much good TV there was this past year. From high dramas to hilarious sitcoms, thought-provoking mini-series like Mare of Easttown, specials like Oprah’s interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle (yes it was nominated!) and more, our time spent glued to our TV screens was well worth it, especially during a year where we needed an escape.
While this year’s nominations were full of pleasant surprises, one element of this year’s class of nominees definitely stood out to us: a fantastic array of popular and prestige shows alike were represented. Of course, we love a good prestige show (looking at you, Succession) but in this past pandemic year, there were also plenty of feel-good, easy binges that we completely devoured and offered us the escape we needed. Whether you traveled to a galaxy far, far away with your own little ones, or spilled some major tea wit in the high society groups of Victorian England, a slew of shows gave audiences a much-needed respite from the pressures of the year.
Now that we finally know who could be receiving that coveted statuette in the months ahead, it’s time to take stock of our favorite, feel-good shows that made for some excellent viewing choices this past year. With great selections on streaming platforms like HBO Max, Disney+, and Netflix, there are plenty of options to catch up on some of the best shows of the year. Take a look at six of our favorite, feel-good and fun TV shows that have the TV Academy’s seal of approval.
