Former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. was sworn in as the 46th President of the United States in January 2021, and not a moment too soon. Throughout his time in the public eye, Biden has always emphasized how important family is to him, famously picking up his kids’ calls no matter where he is and emotionally breaking down just yesterday over the loss of his eldest son Beau Biden in 2015. While daughter Ashley Biden has already confirmed that dad Joe will not be hiring his kids to work in the White House as Donald Trump did, it’s clear that wife Dr. Jill Biden and kids Beau, Ashley, Naomi, and Hunter Biden have had a huge influence on the man their dad is today.

So, who exactly is a part of our newest first family? Joe and Jill will be moving in to the White House tomorrow with their German Shepherds Champ and Major, and kids Hunter and Ashley, with respective spouses Melissa Cohen and Howard Krein, cheering them on. Joe also has a whopping seven grandkids excited for his big day. Hunter shares kids Naomi, Finnegan, and Maisy with ex-wife Kathleen Buhle, a son with current wife Melissa, and a fifth child with ex Lunden Alexis Roberts with whom he’s not in contact. Late Beau’s kids with wife Hallie Biden, Natalie and Robert, are grandpa Joe’s youngest grandkids.

One of Joe’s grandkids’ names bears a special meaning: Hunter’s daughter Naomi was named after his late sibling, Joe’s 1-year-old daughter who passed away in a 1972 car crash that also took the life of his first wife Neilia Hunter, injuring young Hunter and Beau. The Biden family has never turned away from their shared grief, instead honoring its place in their lives and the love it represents.
