Is your significant other taller or shorter than you? By how much? (We’ll wait if you want to break out the tape measure…) With the average height of an American woman coming in at 5’4”, and the average height of a man in the U.S. being 5’9”, there’s a good chance there’s a gap of at least a couple of inches between the noggin-tops of a typical heteronormative couple.
Some couples, however, really don’t measure up, at least in the height match-up category — and some of the biggest mismatches occur in celebrity couples like Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, Maren Morris and husband Ryan Hurd, and Shawn Johnson and Andrew East. Whether that’s because actors are notoriously shorter than they appear on the big screen, or because professional sports players are giants both on and off the court, these celebrity couples have us scratching our heads (appropriately sized, thank you very much).
Some of our most perplexing thoughts include: What height are their kitchen countertops? Does one person need a step stool while the other has to stoop? Does their living room have maxi and mini size furniture to accommodate their differently proportioned bods? And then there’s the logistics of, well, the bedroom action. Eye contact while getting it on must be a little, um, challenging? (How do all the parts line up?!)
While we’ll let the celebs maintain their sexy-time privacy and refrain from actually asking such gauche questions, we did round up 10 famous couples with some of the biggest height differences — all at least a foot apart! — so you can ponder your own how-do-they-do-that queries.

Kim Kardashian & Pete Davidson
Image Credit: Evan Agostini/Invision/AP, zz/John Nacion/STAR MAX/IPx. One of the reasons the pairing of Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson is so surprising is the huge difference in their heights — while Kim K. stands at 5 feet, 2 inches tall, her new beau is a whopping 6 feet, 3 inches tall, which means there’s more than a foot difference between the two of them. Kim often wears such a high heel that you may not have noticed, but these two have one of the biggest height differences out there.

Machine Gun Kelly & Megan Fox
Image Credit: Chris Pizzello/Invision/AP. Even in heels, Megan Fox is nowhere near as tall as her new fiancé Machine Gun Kelly. The Jennifer’s Body star is just 5′ 4″ compared to her twin flame who’s a full foot taller at 6′ 4″. While their difference in height is always obvious on the red carpet, keep in mind that Fox is often wearing high heels!
-
Nicole Kidman & Keith Urban
Image Credit: zz/GOTPAP/STAR MAX/IPx. Now, this list is full of men who boast towering heights. But Nicole Kidman stands tall compared to her husband, Keith Urban. The Oscar winning actress is 5′ 11″, and nearly always looks it on the red carpet too. During such occasions, she might even boast a few more inches in contrast to her country crooning beau. Urban stands at 5′ 10″ (so not really all that drastic when Kidman’s not wearing heels).
-
Gwen Stefani & Blake Shelton
Image Credit: Sipa USA via AP. Gwen Stefani has always been on the petite side, but when she stands next to Blake Shelton it defintely shows! Obviously, we wouldn’t really know that when the two stars are sitting in their The Voice coaching seats, but when they hit the red carpet you can tell Shelton is nearly a foot taller than Stefani. The “Sweet Escape” songstress is 5′ 6″ compared to her husband’s height at 6′ 5″.
-
Ben Affleck & Jennifer Lopez
Image Credit: Sipa USA via AP. You might not know it just from looking at the new improved iteration of Bennifer, but the couple actually boasts a pretty significant height difference. Of course, Lopez’s penchant for working fabulous heels on the red carpet definitely makes up for it, but without them she stands at 5′ 5″ while Affleck is a whoppping 6′ 4″.
-
Maren Morris & Ryan Hurd
Image Credit: Al Wagner/Invision/AP. Country music sweethearts Maren Morris and Ryan Hurd made a splash with their first-ever awards show performance of “Chasing After You,” where their significant height difference was on display more than ever as they sang to each other on the stage. At 6 feet even, Hurd is a head and shoulders and then some taller than Morris’ 5 feet, 1 inch tall.
-
Chris Bosh & Adrienne Williams
Image Credit: zz/John Nacion/STAR MAX/IPx. It’s no surprise that a pro basketball player and his bride top this list, right? Former NBA player Chris Bosh is 6’11” while his wife Adrienne Williams is an extra-small 4’11’. For anyone not in the mood to do math, that’s a two foot, or 24 inch, difference! The couple been married since 2011, and they have four kids together, including a set of twins.
-
Shawn Johnson East & Andrew East
Image Credit: AP. As far as athletes go, gymnasts are known for being pint-size, and Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson fulfills the stereotype at 4’11”. Her football player husband Andrew East, meanwhile, is a solid 6’2”, for a height difference of 15 inches between the two. The former long snapper and balance beam star now run a successful YouTube channel, The East Family, about their life with daughter Drew Hazel, born in 2019.
-
Will Smith & Jada Pinkett Smith
Image Credit: Sipa USA via AP. Not only are Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, married since 1997, one of the longest-lasting celebrity couples, but they also have one of the largest height differences: a ruler-busting 14 inches. At 6’2” the Fresh Prince is relatively tall, but Jada’s 5’0″ frame is especially diminutive. Though the couple have had their rough patches, they remain life partners and committed to each other.
-
Shakira & Gerard Piqué
Image Credit: Dave Bedrosian/Geisler-Fotopress/picture-alliance/dpa/AP Images. Her hips don’t lie, but her 5’2” stature makes Shakira’s soccer player husband Gerard Piqué look like even more of a colossal figure than his 6’4” frame otherwise might. The disproportionate duo first met on the set of the singer’s “Waka Waka” music video, which was the official anthem of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, and they now have two sons together.
-
Lebron James & Savannah Brinson
Image Credit: Evan Agostini/Invision/AP. At 5’7” Savannah Brinson is taller than the average woman, but when you’re standing next to Lebron James, that still looks pretty short in the prom photo. In fact, Lebron’s 6’9” pro basketball body towers a full 14 inches over his wife. The pair started dating when they were both teenagers — attending rival high schools, no less —and married in 2013. They have three children.
-
Kristen Bell & Dax Shepard
Image Credit: PGnpa7. It’s unclear how tall Princess Anna is (animated worlds are so hard to measure!), but the actress behind her voice is a practically pocket-sized 5’1”. Meanwhile, Kristen Bell’s real-life hubby Dax Shepard is a proud 6’2”, a full 13 inches above the crown (of her head or the Arendelle tiara). It seems the Armchair Expert host may have an affinity for petite women, as his podcast co-host Monica Padman, whom he calls his “soulmate” and “Miniature Mouse,” is only 5’4”.
-
Reese Witherspoon & Jim Toth
Image Credit: John Salangsang/Invision/AP. Hollywood powerhouse Reese Witherspoon packs a lot of spunk into her petite 5’1” body, and her talent agent husband Jim Toth supports her in all she does, encouraging her to start turning all the books she reads so voraciously into movies. Plus, Toth can probably quite literally support her as he is an entire foot taller. The adorable couple met in 2010, married in 2011, and welcomed son Tennessee James in 2012.
-
Isla Fisher & Sacha Baron Cohen
Image Credit: OConnor-Arroyo/AFF-USA.com / MEGA. Borat is a larger-than-life character, and English actor-comedian Sacha Baron Cohen is a large presence himself, topping out at 6’3”. His Aussie actress wife, however, is a teensy 5’3”. The hilarious couple — who met in 2001, married in 2010 and are parents to two kids — are quite aware of their exceptional height difference, with Fisher once joking that standing next to Cohen made her look like “a circus freak.”
-
Ashton Kutcher & Mila Kunis
Image Credit: Photo by Jesse Grant/Getty Images. It’s pretty clear from whatever red carpet they’re on that Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis have a pretty significant height difference. Kutcher is 6′ 2″ while Kunis is 5′ 4″. The couple met on the set of That ’70s Show back in the late ’90s, but it wasn’t until 2015 that they tied the knot.
