Each year on the first Monday in May, the Met Gala delights with an exhibition of celebrity fashion unlike anything seen the rest of the year. Unfortunately, 2020’s event won’t take place tonight due to the coronavirus pandemic — which, to be honest, has us feeling a little sentimental.
In that sentimentality, we’ve decided to dwell on other things that didn’t come to pass. And that has manifested as a stroll down memory lane of past celebrity couples of the event whose memorable ensembles turned out to be far more timeless than their love. Because yes, we obviously all tune into the Met Gala to fawn over the statement-making fashion. But part of the appeal is also seeing which celebrity couples complement each other well enough to stand out in the sea of Avante Garde style.
Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson always looked so sleek and chic at the Met Gala prior to their shocking breakup in 2016 after a decade together. Speaking of a decade, the last Met Gala red carpet Jude Law and Sienna Miller made it to was in 2010, and to be honest, we’ve never stopped secretly hoping they’d pop up on another one. And the 2018 Met Gala was one of the last times we got to see Bradley Cooper and Irina Shayk in their full glory before they parted ways just shy of a year later.
So, in the absence of a Met Gala this May, join us in looking back at some of the former couples who attended this highly anticipated event.
