Little Big Town's Karen Fairchild talks CMA Fest & awards nominations
Little Big Town has a busy summer ahead. Not only is the band out on tour and will have to make numerous appearances at awards shows, it has been tapped to host the CMA Music Festival's televised special.
As the reigning CMA Vocal Group of the Year, Little Big Town will be hosting CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock, a television music event airing on ABC this August featuring country’s hottest stars.
Filmed at this year’s CMA Music Festival in Nashville, the television special will feature some of the best festival performances. Little Big Town’s Karen Fairchild couldn’t be happier for the hosting opportunity.
“[The CMA Music Festival] was one of our very early performances, so to look down the road and think now we're hosting the show is incredible.”
And of course, Little Big Town will be rocking the festival stage Friday night.
As for the show itself, Karen isn’t about to give up any of the fun surprises that TV viewers have in store, but she would say that the band has been involved in putting the show together.
She explained that she wants to take viewers “inside of the energy and electricity that is CMA Fest. There’s no way to describe how much fun we all have. It's crazy-busy and it’s a little nutty, but it's so much fun, and when you step onto that stage, there’s nothing that compares to it.”
Nothing, that is, except for maybe racking up all of the awards they have won over the years. Along with their numerous country music awards and their recent Grammy for the hit single “Pontoon,” Little Big Town is currently nominated for a daytime Emmy for Outstanding Original Song for the ABC show Good Afternoon America.
Karen explained that they were surprised at the nomination because of how quickly the song came together. They started brainstorming ideas on a Friday, went into the recording studio on Monday, and the song hit the air that Thursday.
“We were so floored by [the Emmy nomination]. It’s really cool to think about how quickly and how nicely that all went down. It’s an unbelievable way for anything like that to come about. It was another really beautiful surprise of this year.”
But the Emmy isn’t the only award they are currently up for. “Pontoon” is nominated for Group Video of The Year and “Tornado” is nominated for Video of the Year at the 2013 CMT Music Awards.
However, as cliché as it might seem, Karen genuinely is just happy to be in the company of her fellow nominees. “They’re all our friends. Literally, these people are the people that we hang with and love to be around. It just feels too good to be a part of the show and be nominated.”
Well, Little Big Town certainly has a big summer ahead. They are currently on tour with Keith Urban, and we can all catch up with them this summer when they host CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock.
