It’s been 18 years since Jewel found her way into our hearts with her lovely lyricism. She has a talent worth celebrating.

We’re so excited for Jewel‘s Greatest Hits tour. The first time we heard her on the radio, it was her angelic voice that drew us in and kept us listening. Soon enough, however, we realized that her real gift was her wordsmithing. Her voice is beautiful and her tunes can easily end up running through your head all day. But it’s her poetic lyrics that really sealed the deal and turned us into fans. Here’s a look at some of our favorites from over the years.

“You Were Meant for Me” (Pieces of You, 1995)

Dreams last so long
even after you’re gone
I know you love me
And soon you will see
You were meant for me
And I was meant for you

Jewel’s Every Day Angels give back>>

“Kiss the Flame” (Spirit, 1998)

I want to brave love, one that makes me weak in the knees
I want a crazy, crazy love
One that makes me come undone at the seams

“Hands” (Spirit, 1998)

Poverty stole your golden shoes
It didn’t steal your laughter
And heartache came to visit me
But I knew it wasn’t ever after

“Enter from the East” (Spirit, 1998)

The clock became a bullet hole
Cruel and unkind
It hurt me with its second hand
Alone another night

Jewel also wrote a song for breast cancer survivors>>

“The Face of Love” (Joy: A Holiday Collection, 1999)

In silence I feared my heart
Would remain words unheard
Inside a separateness of skin
But now I know that the skin just veils the soul

“Break Me” (This Way, 2001)

I will meet you
In some place where the light lends itself to soft repose
I will let you undress me
But I warn you I have thorns like any rose

“Leave the Lights On” (0304, 2003)

I will mesmerize with milky thighs and languid eyes,
I’ll prophesize your moans and sighs
Just look at me sacredly, religiously, hungrily,
Let your eyes say, “Please,” I will not leave

“Haunted” (0304, 2003)

Let me speak quietly
So your heart can hear
I will hypnotize and mesmerize you
With the sound of your own fear

“Goodbye Alice in Wonderland” (Goodbye Alice in Wonderland, 2006)

Yes, a heart can hallucinate
If it’s completely starved for love
It can even turn monsters into
Angels from above

Quest for Love (Arthur and the Invisibles Soundtrack, 2006)

It’s the little things that make a difference
It’s the quest for love that brings us life
It’s a dream of what could be
That makes it all worthwhile
Like you being by my side
A love that only grows with time

“I Do” (Perfectly Clear, 2008)

Love is a game until it’s played
And if it’s lost, it can’t ever be saved
We have heaven to win and hell to lose
But the difference is up to me and you
So if you will, I will stop saying I won’t
And start saying I do

“Loved by You (Cowboy Waltz)” (Perfectly Clear, 2008)

You may call me foolish
Oh, I try and you know it’ll be true
But I don’t wanna be loved
By anybody but you

“Raven” (Lullaby, 2009)

Fly like a raven, black honey into the night
Soft like the air beneath, a swan in a flight

“Dreamer” (Lullaby, 2009)

Don’t want to hear no sad songs
I say to the darkness
But it doesn’t respond

“Summer Home in Your Arms” (Sweet and Wild, 2010)

I kiss you with the languid adoration of slumber
Landing random as Lotto numbers
One for each eye
