The Voice: Shakira and Usher returning after all?
The Voice is sticking with a winning formula. The music competition plans to mix and match judges over the next two seasons. That means Usher, Shakira, Christina Aguilera, and CeeLo Green will all return.
American Idol may be losing judges, but The Voice is drowning in them. Wednesday it was confirmed that Christina Aguilera would return to the show following Shakira's exit. Meanwhile, Usher and CeeLo Green's status were still in limbo.
On Thursday, Entertainment Weekly reported that all four judges would be back — at different times. NBC has solidified the lineup for the next two cycles. This fall's roster will include the original four: Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Aguilera and Green.
Cycle 6 will premiere in the spring, and feature the current group with Shakira and Usher. As expected, Carson Daly will be there to host both rounds. Levine and Shelton must really love this show because they never take a break.
As we said before, Usher and Shakira's additions have been well-received. Some fans even like them more than the judges they replaced. We think the alternating schedule will keep things fresh. It's great for Shakira who told Us Weekly she was initially leaving for personal and professional reasons.
"I'm not going to be able to do next season because I have to get back to my motherhood and also get back to the studio, the recording studio, to finish my album, the one that I started working on before I had to deliver a baby and before I took this gig with The Voice," she said. "So yeah, I have to take a little break. But you never know, I might come back!"
And back she is.
The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC.
