Shakira's baby is freaking exhausting
Parenthood is both harder and more joyful than anyone told her it would be, the "Hips Don't Lie" singer told People.
The hardest thing so far about taking care of 3-month-old Milan, Shakira says? The diapers.
"I didn’t expect babies to need so many diapers," Shakira told People during a press day for The Voice, on which she is a coach along with Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Usher. "Nobody told me they needed to be changed so often."
Ha! She's right. An infant can cycle through diapers every two hours or even faster during the day, using up five to 10 diapers every day.
Shakira didn't mention it, but if she's breastfeeding (which we shouldn't assume!), that's equally exhausting: A newborn needs to be fed eight to 12 times a day.
That's a lot of work. And Shakira is feeling it.
"It takes a lot of energy from you. But I love it," Shakira tells People. "I’m really enjoying every bit of it. It’s not as idyllic as everybody tells you — but not as horrible as everybody tells you. It comes with a full package. It comes with lots of joy and also lots of fear."
Doesn't it, though.
Shakira wowed viewers earlier this month by bringing baby Milan to work at The Voice; she says he's a "great baby."
"He's an easy one. He's very focused so far," she said. "I think he’s going to have a lot of concentration because he focuses on anything I give to him or any little movie I play for him. He really watches."
She said she's playing a lot of music for him: rock 'n' roll, and Latin music too, so he grows up with the same music she did in Colombia. She also said that boyfriend Gerard Piqué is a huge help. "He’s the kind of dad who is full hands-on. He changes diapers; he enjoys bathing him. That’s a real help for me."
