Actor, producer, writer and friend of The Muppets, Jason Segel, is adding another job to his résumé: author. On Wednesday, Random House announced that they will publish a trilogy of books written by Segel aimed at middle-school-aged kids.

The series will be called Nightmares! and the first book is expected to be released in fall 2014 by Delacorte Press. Writing along with him will be bestselling author of The Eternal Ones, Kirsten Miller.

The books actually began as a film project back when he was 21 years old, but after the script fell off of a studio's radar, the actor decided to repurpose the material. If the book series becomes a top-seller, then expect the novels to again be adapted for the screen.

The trilogy is an adventure story about a town that is overcome by fear after nightmarish creatures have infiltrated their everyday lives. It's up to a group of young kids to help save their town and triumph over their own fears.

The How I Met Your Mother star said in a statement, "I couldn't be more excited that Nightmares! has found a home at Random House. Ultimately, it's a story about learning that we can accomplish anything, as long as we are brave enough to try. These are the types of stories that always inspired me."

Random House is naturally thrilled to be publishing the property since Segel has a successful track record on the big and small screen.

Barbara Marcus, president/publisher of RHCB said, "Jason Segel has the perfect voice to write for children. Nightmares! is inventive, genuine, and relatable to middle-grade readers. We're thrilled to see Jason's creative vision translated to the page, and can't wait to introduce him to the publishing world as a tremendous new talent."

Segel will next be seen in This is the End which will hit theatres on June 12.
