We loved to hate her as Blair Waldorf on Gossip Girl and now she’s embarking on yet another on-screen venture.
Leighton Meester is close to signing on to The Judge.
The drama already has an all-star cast that includes Robert Downey Jr., Vincent D’Onofrio, Robert Duvall, Vera Farmiga, and Dax Shepard.
Directed by David Dobkin, the film centers on a lawyer (Downey) who returns to his hometown for his mother’s funeral only to discover that his father (Duvall), the town judge, is suspected of killing her. As he attempts to uncover the truth, he begins to reconnect with family he left behind.
The Judge, which is penned by Bill Dubuque and Nick Schenk, will begin shooting in Boston this July.
Rumor has it Meester is circling the role of Carrie Bishop for the forthcoming Veronica Mars movie.
This year, the star will appear in the comedy Any Tom, Dick, or Harry and the crime drama Only God Knows, alongside Ben Barnes and Harvey Keitel.
The Judge marks a rare foray into drama for the actress. In the past, she’s starred in comedies like That’s My Boy and The Oranges. She also appeared in the horror flick The Roommate.
Meester isn’t the only Gossip Girl make a smooth transition to the big screen.
Penn Badgley has starred in such well-received films as Easy A and Margin Call. The actor will soon be seen in Greetings from Tim Buckley and Parts Per Billion.
