GMA's Sam Champion ties the knot!
The morning show weather guy came out just two months ago when he announced his engagement. Champion and his fiance married Friday afternoon in front of friends and family.
Sam Champion is now a married man! After announcing his engagement only a few months ago, the Good Morning America weather anchor was married to his fiance, Rubem Robierb, on Friday afternoon. According to Celebuzz.com, the couple married at their Manhattan apartment in front of guests, including some very special ones.
"Champion's ABC News colleague, Robin Roberts, also attended the wedding," said Celebuzz, "despite being on medical leave since early September after she underwent treatment for a rare blood and bone marrow disorder, called myelodysplastic syndrome, or MDS."
Not only was Roberts in attendance, but she also added a little something to the ceremony.
"In attendance at the weatherman's apartment were friends, family and Champion's GMA cohorts, including Robin Roberts, who reportedly read a poem during the 10-minute afternoon ceremony," said the Los Angeles Times. "Robierb's mother and sisters joined the party via Skype from Brazil, his native country."
The newspaper also reported that the reception will take place in the form of a huge New Year's Eve party in Miami.
"That's going to be the big party," Champion said Friday, according to the LA Times. "This is the legal moment that we wanted to celebrate with friends and family and loved ones."
When the couple was engaged in October, it also served as Champion's public coming out, and he was surprised by the response.
"The amazing response from folks all over the country was just incredible for us," he said at the time on GMA. "I felt like we lived in a small town... I was born in Paducah, Kentucky, and to me that's exactly what it felt like. We walked out on the street and everyone was like, 'Hey, congratulations.' I have met the most wonderful, giving, loving, caring person. I am so, so lucky to have someone like this in my life."
Other friends in attendance included GMA co-stars Lara Spencer and Josh Elliott. New York State Supreme Court Justice George J. Silver conducted the ceremony.
