Michael Richards' big return to TV
Seinfeld's Michael Richards makes a big return to TV as he is cast in the TV Land pilot Giant Baby alongside Kirstie Alley.
One of television's most famous actors is returning to the small screen. Viewers can expect to see Seinfeld's Michael Richards, also known as Kramer, coming into their living rooms in 2013.
Richards has been cast alongside Kirstie Alley in a new pilot called Giant Baby. The show revolves around a Broadway star named Maddie Banks who is reunited with her long-lost son, Arlo. The two live very different lifestyles as Maddie loves everything fancy while Arlo lives a simple life. As in every sitcom, chaos ensues when the two personalities meet.
With Alley playing the lead role and Richards coming in to play the limo driver, is there room for other TV comedians? Yes, there is, as former Cheers castmate, Rhea Pearlman, has come aboard to play Maddie's assistant. If that isn't enough star power for you, fellow contestant on Dancing with the Stars, Gilles Marini, is guest-starring as Maddie's chef.
For Richards, this marks a big comeback after his failed NBC sitcom, The Michael Richards Show, went off the air in 2000. In addition to that obstacle, the comedian was basically blacklisted in Hollywood following his N-word dropping comedy rant at West Hollywood's Laugh Factory in 2006. Thanks to TMZ, the video went viral and he went on an apology tour following the public outrage. He retired from stand-up comedy in 2007.
TV Land is the network producing the pilot. The cable channel has become the home to many famous TV faces with shows like Hot in Cleveland bringing together stars like Betty White, Valerie Bertinelli and Wendie Malick. They also have Fran Drescher, Rita Moreno and Tichina Arnold starring in Happily Divorced.
The pilot is set to shoot next week in Los Angeles.
