The Vampire Diaries recap: The cure
Nothing is permanent is the town of Mystic Falls. Not even eternal damnation. Apparently, there is a cure for Elena's current undead state — and it all has to do with The Five.
So, here's the deal about The Five. The Brotherhood of the Five are an elite group of vampire hunters whose mission is to kill every vampire. Every time a hunter kills one, the mysterious tattoo on their arms grow. This tattoo actually is a map that will lead them to a very important secret.
How did Klaus (Joseph Morgan) know this? Well, 900 or so years ago Rebekah (Claire Holt) fell in love with one of the vampire hunters. They were about to get married until he tried to kill her entire family and then stabbed her. Luckily, she's a hybrid and survived. But, she buried him and his sword at the spot they were supposed to get married. Tragic.
Now, this sword seems to be a big deal. It's a key to the map, and the map leads to a cure to being a vampire. Say what now? So a person can die, come back to life-ish, live in an undead state for, literally, ever, then come back to life to be a regular human being? That sounds better than this one life business us mortals are stuck with.
Without a doubt, Stefan (Paul Wesley) wants to find the cure to help Elena and he even vows to partake of it with her. Rebekah tells Stefan where the sword is and things seem to be going well. But then, Klaus appears with a poisoned dagger, stabbed Rebekah (seriously, meanest brother ever) and demands that Stefan not let anyone know about the cure.
The very sneaky Connor (Todd Williams) is able to steal a nail and escape from Klaus' torture chamber. When he escapes, his tattoo expands. Another vampire turned to dust. He goes to visit Professor Shane, who he knows teaches the magic class Bonnie's grandmother used to teach. Hmmm… I wonder where this is going?
While all of The Five business is getting sorted out, Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) are living it up at a college frat party. Damon's trying to teach Elena how to feed and have self-control. It's easier for her to feed on dirtbags who are slipping drugs into girls' drinks, instead of run-of-the-mill good people. So, things get bloody and she seems to have a really good time.
But, then, when she sees Stefan, she has a different story to tell. She says things got out of hand when she was trying to feed, how awful it was, and that she can't live like this. Of course, now Stefan is more determined than ever to find the cure. A cure would be great because indecisive Elena isn't my favorite. Just drink some blood and calm yourself woman!
