Scotty McCreery isn't the new kid on the block. At 19, he's no stranger to the CMA Awards or the music industry in general. After winning Season 10 of American Idol, he's stayed busy, both personally and professionally.

SheKnows spoke to the singer before tonight's CMA Awards, where he dished on his latest obstacle — college. McCreery's pulling double duty, as a student by day and a performer by night.

He reveals, "Grades are good. The grades are good. I'm having to learn quick that time management is the biggest part of college, especially when you live your life on the road the other half of the week... I think I'll get through the first semester alright."

The singer's not as high maintenance as you might think, though. He currently lives with three roommates whom he's known for years. He credits them with keeping him humble and on his toes.

He jokes, "They hate on me more than anybody else."

As for the CMA Awards, McCreery has a good idea of who'll walk away as the year's Best New Artist.

"All of them are great. All of them, I've had the pleasure of seeing, doing shows and hear[ing] their music. If I have to pick, I would say B.G. [Brantley Gilbert]. He's on fire. I don't see how you could go against him."

Well, Gilbert — or B.G., as McCreery likes to call him — has some tough competition. He's up against Lee Brice, Hunter Hayes, Thompson Square and Love and Theft.
