The group played a show Thursday night in NYC, to the delight of their fans. But, it got uncomfortable when they debuted a new song that is pretty obviously about Nick Jonas’s ex-girlfriend Miley Cyrus.
On Thursday night, the Jonas Brothers played a show at Radio City Music Hall, in what they called a “reunion show. “After a hiatus spent pursuing solo endeavors, the trio stormed the stage at the famed Big Apple venue, much to the delight of their rabid, screaming fans,” MTV said.
The group played mainly old songs, but also performed three new ones from their upcoming album. One song, though, offered an uncomfortable moment, probably for everyone involved.
“We’re in the process of recording a new album, which is both good and bad,” Nick Jonas said, according to MTV. He said writing new music means you have to “dive into subjects that make us uncomfortable and write about them. … You have to write a song and apologize for it later. I don’t think I’ve ever written a song that makes me as uncomfortable as this song does. Some things happened in the last year that affected me in that moment. … This song is called ‘Wedding Bells.'”
Nick Jonas dated Miley Cyrus before she started dating current fiancé Liam Hemsworth. While Jonas has not confirmed that the song is about her, there aren’t many other people it could be about. The lyrics make it even more obvious.
“She says, ‘Can you keep a secret/ A ceremony’s set for June/ I know it’s a rush, but I just love him so much/ I hope that you can meet him soon,'” Jonas sang. “I don’t want to love, if it’s not you/ I don’t want to hear the wedding bells bloom/ Maybe we can try one last time/ But I don’t want to hear the wedding bells chime.”
The way things are going though, those wedding bells may not be happening any time soon. Cyrus has said she and Hemsworth aren’t moving very fast on planning their wedding. She is still recording a new album and Hemsworth is working on his latest film. A release date for the Jonas Brothers’ new album and tour has not yet been announced, although in February they told MTV the album would be out near the end of this year or early 2013.
