Clip reveals Arrow's superhero origins
Every superhero is born from tragedy. The CW's Arrow is no different. The character gets roughed up physically and emotionally before turning over a new leaf. The network has released a behind-the-scenes video that gives insight into the crime-fighter.
"Arrow is a story about a superhero that is real," explains Stephen Amell. The actor plays the title character in the CW series debuting this month. He's front and center of a new featurette that unveils the magic behind the show.
Arrow is based on the popular DC Comics character, Green Arrow. Instead of superhuman powers, the character has very distinct and "learned" abilities.
Unlike its predecessor Smallville, which also featured the hero, he won't be rubbing elbows with Superman. Arrow is grounded in reality. No intergalactic beings allowed.
The series begins with spoiled billionaire Oliver Queen getting the shock of his life. While at sea, he's caught in a storm and washes up on a deserted island. At home, everyone assumes he's dead. While struggling to survive, he has a wake-up call. He's too smart and talented to continue wasting his life.
Oliver is extremely proficient with a bow and arrow. It becomes his weapon of choice in his fight against crime. When he returns, there's a lot of work to do personally and professionally. Before he left, he was cheating on his girlfriend Laurel (Katie Cassidy) with her sister (ouch!). And judging from this preview, she doesn't care about his new lease on life.
Arrow premieres Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 8/7c.
