Get your cowboy boots and plaid T-shirts ready… ABC’s new series Nashville is going to be competing with the already successful musical TV series, Glee and Smash, and will be pulling out country music, fame-fueled drama and Hayden Panettiere to do it.
Synopsis:
Rayna James (Connie Britton) is a legendary and conservative country music superstar who has been the force to reckon with for 21 years, but now, as younger musicians hit the scene, Rayna’s hot career is starting to cool off. Enter said younger musician, Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere), the perfect picture of a wanna-be, do-anything-for-fame teen star who struts around in sequined dresses, uses her looks to get what she wants, and uses auto-tune as much as her vocal chords (sound like anyone you know?).
From the beginning, it’s apparent that these two leading ladies are not going to see eye to eye. In an attempt to save Rayna’s quickly diminishing career, her record label encourages her to be the opening act for Juliette’s tour, which — surprise, surprise— Rayna tells them to kiss her decision as she walks out (that’s a sassy no, if you didn’t get it). The ladies are destined to battle it out; Juliette will try everything in her power (and mini-dress) to take Rayna down, and Rayna will use her talent, her powerful Nashville daddy (Lamar Hampton) and her husband’s run for mayor (Teddy Conrad) to prevail. She will not bow down to the pop-tarty teen… Geez, guys, can’t we all just play nice? I guess when it comes to money and fame, it’s never nice.
We’ll watch the power struggle play out, along with family drama, love triangles and the Nashville forces that be.
Yeehaw! The Nashville jam off begins Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 10 p.m. Central.
Why should you watch?
If you’re a Glee and Smash fan, you should just add Nashville to your DVR list now. It’s music, it’s drama and it’s just plain sexy. Plus, if you’re going to miss Connie Britton on American Horror Story: Asylum, you can get your fix here! Different plot line, but similar disfunctional marriage… it’ll do.
Starring:
Connie Britton- Rayna James
Hayden Panettiere- Juliette Barnes
Powers Boothe- Lamar Hampton
