LL Cool J delivers beat-down to home intruder
When a prowler broke into his LL Cool J's Los Angeles home early Wednesday morning, not only did the rapper-actor stay cool but he channeled one of his most famous songs, "Mama Said Knock You Out," and proceeded to do just that to protect his family.
James Todd Smith, better known as "LL Cool J," and his family are safe and sound now, after the NCIS: Los Angeles star fought and detained a reportedly homeless man who broke into his L.A. home early Wednesday morning.
TMZ reports the father of four awoke to a "commotion" downstairs in the wee morning hours (some outlets say 1:00 a.m., some say 2:00 a.m.) and when the rapper-turned-actor went to check it out, he found a burglar in his kitchen.
But the 58-year-old prowler picked the wrong house, because it appears LL channeled his Special Agent Sam Hanna role and began waling on the intruder.
"There was a brief physical confrontation between the two," LAPD spokesman Richard French told Reuters.
LL, who doesn't exactly look like he should be messed with, proceeded to hold the criminal with the misfortune of encountering the actor until police arrived.
He is reportedly being charged with burglary, though as of Wednesday morning it was unclear as to the extent of the intruder's injuries.
LL and his family, though, appear to be unscathed -- at least physically.
The star's spokesman, Rhett Ursy, said in a statement, via Reuters: "LL Cool J, and his family, are safe and thank everyone for their thoughts and concern. As a father, husband and citizen, he is committed to keeping his family safe and is cooperating with authorities on this private matter."
